Stacy Bailey is a gay woman who teaches at Charlotte Anderson Elementary School in Arlington, Texas. She faced descrimination based off of her sexual orientation and fought in court for her rights. Bailey was originally suspended after the school received parent complaints about her showing a photo of her then girlfriend to her class in an introduction slideshow at the beginning of the year. Baileys category is gay. Bailey is bound by her category by the centuries of unfair and harmful treatment that members of the LGBTQ community. This binding is extremely hard because sexual orientation is not something a person can change. From what I took from the reading, Bailey is not ashamed of being gay, but she is unfortunately bound by other peoples thoughts, and was forced to fight for her rights. Her court case freed her from the unfair punishment that the school tried to inflict on her; however, I expect that knowing parents and the school itself were against her, was binding in a different way

It is such an important thing to think about how Bailey was bound by multiple categories in this instance. Although she was predominantly categorized by her sexuality, it seems each category stemmed off of one another. Understanding how categories are connected and influence each other could help with the process of re-categorization.
Bailey is such a brave and strong person to be able to stand up for herself how she did and not let others put her in a box. Her job was affected by her sexual orientation which would have never happened if the teacher was heterosexual and showed a picture of their wife/husband. Unfortunately for Bailey, many people have opposite thoughts on being gay, and Bailey just has to live with that. However, she does not let people put her down for feeling something else and that is the important part. This is how she was able to recategorize herself from the gay teacher, to the strong and proud woman that she is.
