Assignment – Using a range of pencils HB, 6B, Ebony or vine and compressed charcoal and
representing the full range of value, especially cast shadow and reflected lights, draw an
interesting object from nature. The object should be small (insect, flower, etc.) Use at least
TWO sheets of 14” x 11” paper attached as you see fit, (use as much of the paper as possible
while still being inventive with the shape of your work). Draw the object at least three times. The
images must: 1) fill the page, 2) overlap each other at least once. 3) touch the edges of the
composition. Try to create rhythm through repetition of shape and mark. Remember your
sketches.
