Jamison wrote ”Devils Bait” in a scientific article format; doing this had multiple effects. one benefit to writing her essay in the form of a scientific paper is the ethos that comes with it. Scientific articles are easily trusted, as they are backed with data. By using this format, Jamison invokes a certain level of trust in her readers. Scientific articles are also very clearly organized, which can be helpful in a longer paper. The organization system happened to work really well for Jamisons topic and the flow of the paper. Finally, the idea to use a scientific format for this paper was simply a fun and cleaver idea since shes talking about a medical phenomenon. I often find scientific articles hard to read as data tends to slow me down and make me less incline to read something, not only that, but i often find the clear and concise writing style a bit bland and boring. Jamisons essay was full of interesting personal stories that keeps the reader interested. Essays like this are convincing because they keep the readers attention, and I feel like people tend to believe things that hold their attention and that they find entertaining. On the other hand, scientific papers provide hard hard facts and data that are hard to argue against. A reader might find statistics to be more convincing evidence than a persons personal account.
